SET AND COSTUME DESIGNERS (June 8 to June 29) (Graphic artists at the Rome Festival include architects, painters, and designers. Graphic artists attending the Summer Institute range in age from early twenties to early thirties. Graphic artists attending as volunteers range in age from early twenties to late fifties.
For the summers of 2014 and 2015 you can apply for a design position for fully staged repertoire of the Rome Festival Ballet, world premieres ballets, and fully staged opera productions of "Carmen" by Bizet, "L'Elisir d'amore" by Donizetti, “Falstaff” by Verdi,“Die Zauberflöte” by Mozart, and the world premiere of "Dreamnotes" by Fritz Maraffi. The Rome Festival Orchestra or Solisiti del Rome Festival provides the music for all performances involving opera and ballet. Initial planning takes place in the USA and Italy prior to April 15. Costumes mistresses built costumes in the USA and Italy from May 1. The graphic artists and stage crew realize and paint the sets in Italy after June 10. Production meetings, rehearsals, and performances take place in Italy from mid-June.
As a design member of the Rome Festival staff you
will participate fully in realizing the production concept while living in
heart of the historic center of Rome. You will consult with
Italian designers who work in television, film, and live theater.
You will collaborate with international conductors and stage
directors in staff round tables and rehearsals. From your small
hotel you will walk to the cultural sites which inspired so many
artists. You will meet instrumentalists, singers, and ballet
dancers from all over the United States, Italy, and at least nine other

All your expenses of the Rome Festival opportunity may be covered by tax deductible gifts and grants through out 501-c-3 charity. Our charity receives many corporate matches. All tax payers and all non-profits may contribute.
We select graphic artists the end of each month for the summer of 2014 and 2015. When our charity has used up all its financial support available for 2014, we invite artists for 2015.
You should apply for the Rome Festival Summer Institute for Graphic Artists during these days for the summer of 2014. To apply mail to our "fast" address, found on the application form, an application form and application fee $39 during these days followed two weeks later with samples of your work in set design and/or costume design. Even if you mail all your application materials on the same day, we suggest you mail them in two envelopes.
